Nigerian actor and comedian Chibunna Stanley, famously known as Funny Bone, has opened up about his love for football and his journey from aspiring footballer to celebrated entertainer.

In a recent interview, the comic star shared insights into his little-known passion for sports. "I’ve always been a football lover," he revealed. "I wanted to play professionally, but when that didn’t work out, I pursued my calling in comedy instead."

Early Aspirations in Football
Funny Bone grew up in Kaduna and Jos, areas renowned for their football culture. Surrounded by stars like Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, and Daniel Amokachi, he was inspired to take a shot at the sport. "I attended trials for the U-17 team when Godwin Izelien coached players like Elderson Echiejile and Sunday Mba. I played as a left-back, much like Ben Iroha," he said.

Although he didn’t make it professionally, Funny Bone cherishes those memories, recalling his determination on the field. "I was very physical during matches, but off the field, I was always the funny guy," he added.

Lifelong Chelsea Fan
The comedian also shared his unwavering loyalty to Chelsea Football Club, a fandom sparked by Nigerian footballer Celestine Babayaro. "I got my first Chelsea jersey in 1997 from Babayaro. Since then, I’ve been a die-hard fan," he explained.

Despite Chelsea’s challenges in recent seasons, Funny Bone remains optimistic. "We may not be in the title race, but we’re enjoying every game. My favorite players right now are Moisés Caicedo and Marc Cucurella for their hard work and talent," he noted.

Nigerian Football Memories and Concerns
Funny Bone also reminisced about Nigeria’s golden football era, citing the Super Eagles' performance at the 1994 Nations Cup and World Cup as highlights. However, he expressed disappointment in recent developments, blaming poor management for the national team’s struggles.

He also criticized the decline of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), saying, "The league has lost its touch. Players don’t stay long enough to build strong teams like Enyimba once did."

A 5-A-Side Dream Team
When asked to pick a 5-a-side team of celebrity players, Funny Bone named AY, Smash from Bracket, MI, DJ Neptune as goalkeeper, and Praiz, whom he fondly remembers playing with in Kaduna.

With his humor and passion for sports, Funny Bone continues to captivate audiences both on and off the stage, showing that his love for football is as enduring as his comedic talent.
