The emergency occurred around 10:37 a.m. on Ikosi-Oregun Road. Distress calls to the 767 and 112 toll-free lines prompted an immediate response from LASEMA's team based at the Command and Control Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
Upon arrival at the scene by 10:47 a.m., responders discovered that two adult males had fallen into the diesel reservoir. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the men fell in accidentally while working. The second man reportedly plunged into the reservoir in a bid to rescue his colleague.
