In a candid interview, renowned Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has shed light on the emotional toll social media trolling has taken on his family, particularly his wife, actress Mo Bimpe. The couple, who have been married for nearly four years, have faced relentless online attacks, with Mo Bimpe often being targeted by hurtful comments.
Adedimeji, speaking to media personality Chude Jideonwo, revealed that his wife has been subjected to cruel remarks, including being called barren by online trolls. Despite the negativity, the actor expressed deep admiration for her resilience. “My wife and I have endured a lot of trolling. Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She always shows me these comments and reassures me that she will be fine,” he shared.
The actor also delved into the challenges he faced during his early days in Nollywood, particularly in the Yoruba film industry. Recalling a pivotal moment, Adedimeji spoke about a mentor who doubted his talent and predicted that his career would fail within a year. Undeterred by the criticism, he pressed on, earning a mere ₦4,000 for a lead role during his early career.
Today, Adedimeji stands as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actors, with numerous accolades to his credit. His recent nomination for Best Actor at the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his stellar performance in Femi Adebayo’s epic film *Jagun Jagun* highlights his journey from obscurity to stardom.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor credited his wife as a significant source of strength and support. “When I embarked on my first big-screen project, *Lisabi*, I realized that many people I thought would support me were absent. But my wife stood by me, boosting my confidence and helping me push forward,” he recounted.
Lateef Adedimeji’s revelations underscore the challenges faced by public figures, from personal attacks on social media to professional struggles, and the critical role of unwavering support in overcoming them.
