Tragedy struck the Amai community in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State when a 70-year-old man, Mr. Aghanti, and his 50-year-old daughter, Mrs. Atagoshi, were gruesomely murdered and beheaded over a land dispute.
The victims, lured into the bush by a suspect under the guise of resolving the dispute, were later found headless in the area. Mrs. Atagoshi, a secondary school teacher, had reportedly purchased a piece of land that became the center of the conflict.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, provided details of the incident. “The suspect contacted the woman, claiming he wanted to discuss the land issue. He took her and her father into the bush, where he killed and beheaded them,” Edafe said.
A breakthrough in the investigation came when vigilantes apprehended a man identified as Emeke, who was found with two human heads, later confirmed to be those of the victims. However, the situation turned violent as an irate mob lynched Emeke and set his body ablaze.
The police confirmed that the primary suspect remains at large, with efforts underway to track and arrest him.
The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves through the Amai community, sparking calls for intensified security and a resolution to the growing number of violent land disputes in the area. Residents have urged authorities to bring the culprits to justice and prevent further tragedies.
