The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to auction over 850 cars seized during its investigations into financial crimes such as corruption, money laundering, and cybercrime.

The vehicles, which include luxury cars and more common models like Toyota Camrys, were forfeited to the Nigerian government.

In a statement released on Monday, the EFCC explained that the auction is in accordance with the EFCC (Establishment) Act of 2004, the Public Procurement Act of 2007, and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery & Management) Act of 2022.

The auction will be held in several cities across Nigeria, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano. The EFCC will partner with appointed auctioneers to conduct the sale, which will take place online from January 20 to 27.

The commission is inviting the public to participate, assuring that the process will be fair and transparent.

The EFCC’s announcement emphasized that the auction is for vehicles subject to final forfeiture orders in line with the relevant laws.

The statement reads: “The General Public is hereby notified that the @officialEFCC through its appointed Auctioneers will conduct e-Auction of the under listed vehicles that are subject of final Forfeiture orders in accordance with the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, Public Procurement Act, 2007 and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery & Management) Act, 2022.”
