Renowned gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has addressed the ongoing controversy involving her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod, popularly known as Eezeetee. In a statement shared on her Instagram account on Saturday and signed by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Chinwo clarified key details about their dispute.

The statement dismissed claims that Chinwo had initiated legal action against Eezeetee over her music catalog or that she had described their 50/50 revenue split from digital streaming platform (DSP) earnings as unfair.

Chinwo recounted her professional relationship with Eezeetee, beginning when she was his backup singer in Port Harcourt. In 2017, the pair signed a contract, and later that year, her hit song “Excess Love” skyrocketed her to fame. By 2018, the entire team relocated to Lagos, with Chinwo playing a role in helping fellow artist Judikay join the organization in 2019.

However, Chinwo revealed that by the end of 2019, their relationship began to deteriorate and worsened significantly in 2020. She alleged that while her original contract expired in 2022, Eezeetee fraudulently produced a new contract in 2019, disguised to appear identical to the 2017 agreement. The 25-page document allegedly granted him lifetime ownership of her music catalog, a move Chinwo described as an attempt to exploit her indefinitely.

Efforts to reconcile, including one spearheaded by Apostle Anselm Madubuko, reportedly failed. In 2024, during an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chinwo disclosed that Eezeetee admitted to withholding $274,000 in revenue from DSPs. The funds were recovered peacefully, and Eezeetee also admitted to attempting to manipulate her with a fraudulent contract.

Chinwo claimed that despite tearful pleas from Eezeetee to resolve the matter amicably, he later filed lawsuits against her, Judikay, and the EFCC. The EFCC subsequently charged him with fraud and issued a warrant for his arrest, though the warrant was withdrawn after his legal team intervened.

As of now, Chinwo remains resolute in her quest for justice, emphasizing the importance of protecting her artistic legacy and reputation.
