The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper in the Kontagora Local Government Area of the state, linked to a deadly attack and abduction in December 2024.
The suspect, identified as Nasiru Isyaka, was arrested after he was recognized by one of the victims during a visit to their home, according to a statement released over the weekend by the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
Abiodun detailed that the suspect, a resident of Sabon-Gari Mangu Matachibu village, was part of an armed gang that invaded the community on December 29, 2024. The gang reportedly shot a victim dead and kidnapped two others, who were later rescued through a coordinated security operation.
“On January 17, 2025, at about 10 a.m., police operatives from ‘A’ Division Kontagora arrested one Nasiru Isyaka in connection with the kidnapping incident,” the statement read. *“The suspect was apprehended when he visited one of the rescued victims at home and was immediately identified as a member of the gang.”*
During the arrest, authorities recovered a locally made short gun, and Isyaka reportedly confessed to the crime during preliminary investigations.
The suspect has since been transferred to the police headquarters in Minna for further investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal gang.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
