The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Taiwo Adeleke, a suspected cybercriminal accused of defrauding multiple victims using TikTok. Adeleke allegedly posed as a businesswoman to deceive unsuspecting individuals and siphon millions of naira under the guise of fictitious social responsibility projects.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, one of Adeleke’s recent victims, Olushola Bankole, recounted how he was duped. Bankole explained that he encountered Adeleke on TikTok, where she portrayed herself as a successful palm oil trader. Convinced by her claims of lucrative returns, he transferred ₦1.2 million into her account as an investment in her purported business.
Further investigations by the Ibafo Divisional Police Officer uncovered more victims linked to Adeleke's fraudulent schemes. Preliminary findings revealed that at least five additional individuals had deposited a combined ₦4 million into her account, believing in her fabricated stories.
Odutola confirmed that a detailed investigation is ongoing to uncover all parties involved in the scam. She assured the public that Adeleke would face prosecution once the investigation is complete.
The police urged anyone with further information about Adeleke’s activities or similar scams to come forward to aid in the investigation. The case serves as a reminder for the public to remain vigilant when engaging with individuals online.
