A 29-year-old apprentice, Samson Joseph, is facing serious legal consequences after allegedly orchestrating a midnight robbery that netted him and his accomplices goods worth N10 million from his employer, Ilechukwu Ani.
Joseph, in collaboration with 20-year-old security guard James Joseph, reportedly broke into Ani’s warehouse, stealing high-end clothing items such as polo shirts, T-shirts, and joggers. The stolen goods were then sold to a receiver, identified as Godwin Paul, before the culprits disappeared.
The crime came to light when Ani returned from a trip to find his apprentice missing, his phone switched off, and his valuable stock gone. Following a swift investigation by the police, Samson Joseph was tracked down and arrested at a hideout in Lagos, where he confessed to the crime and aided authorities in apprehending his accomplices.
ASP Onunzi Joseph and his investigative team pieced together the case, leading to the trio’s arraignment before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on charges of conspiracy, breaking and entering, and theft.
Prosecuting counsel, Ishola Samuel, revealed that the theft occurred between November 2024 and January 2025 at a warehouse on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos Island.
The defendants, including Samson Joseph, James Joseph, and Godwin Paul, all pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their defense attorney, Barrister Augustine Okeh, pleaded for leniency, assuring the court they would not flee the jurisdiction.
Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji granted the defendants bail at N2 million each, with two sureties in like sum. The case has been adjourned to February 12, 2025, and the accused will remain at Ikoyi Correctional Facility until they meet their bail conditions.
