A Nigerian man has shared his distressing experience after being arrested and jailed by a betting platform for placing a ₦78,000 bet without having the funds to pay.

The revelation was made in a viral TikTok video where the man recounted how his biggest gambling mistake led him to prison.
According to him, after playing a bet worth ₦78,000, the betting platform reported him to the police, leading to his arrest.
He was subsequently detained at the station, where he spent several weeks without any visit from his family or friends.

Detailing his ordeal, he mentioned that he only survived because one of his cellmates had a visitor who occasionally shared food and water with him.

In his words: “I went to prison because of gambling. One of the gambling platforms took me to prison. I played a game worth ₦78,000 and couldn’t pay.”

“It happened on a Friday, so I spent about a week in the police cell without food or water. My only source of food was from my cellmate’s visitor who brought meals and pure water. None of my family members or friends came to see me.”

As the video gained traction online, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to share their thoughts.
