World’s Most Powerful Passports 2025: Singapore, Japan, South Korea Lead

The Singaporean passport has emerged as the most powerful passport in the world with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 out of 227 countries across the world.

According to the latest 2025 Henley Passport Index, India found the 80th spot on the list, with easy access to 56 nations, while Nigeria are in 88th position with easy access to 45 Nations.

Compiled by Henley & Partners, the index assessed 199 passports based on the data from the International Air Transport Association, IATA.

Singapore is followed jointly by South Korea and Japan who can each access 190 countries.

As per the ranking report. Seven countries – Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Finland and Denmark – made it to third position on the list with access to 187 nations.

The top 10 countries all occupying first and second spots were dominated by East Asian and European powers, as has been the trend over the past few years.

The bottom three in the ranking are Iraq in 97 spot with access to 30 countries, war-torn Syria in the 98 position with access to 27 nations and at the 99 spot is Afghanistan, who took the last place, with access to only 25 countries.

The United Arab Emirates, UAE, was the biggest gainer on the Henley Index, adding 72 destinations since 2015 to land in the 10th position from 32 spot in 2015.

UAE is the only Arab nation in the top 10 with visa-free access to 185 countries.

Also a big gainer is China, landing at 59 spot from 94 in 2015 with access to 83 countries.

Croatia, alongside Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the United States can access 183 destinations and occupy 9th spot

Ghana is in 71st spot and can access 66 Nations while South Africa is in 47th spot and can access 104 nations.
