An Osogbo Magistrate Court has sentenced two individuals, Sikiru Raheem and Azeezat Afeez, to separate prison terms of seven years and two years, respectively, for theft and burglary.
The court, presided over by Magistrate M.A. Olatunji, found the accused guilty of violating Sections 390(9), 249, and 412 of the Osun State Criminal Code. The prosecution, led by Oyedele Akintayo on behalf of the Attorney General of Osun State, charged them with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and burglary.
Delivering the verdict, Magistrate Olatunji emphasized that the convictions were in accordance with the law and served as a deterrent to others engaging in criminal activities.
According to the Osun State Amotekun Corps, both convicts were arrested at different locations in Osogbo following reports of their crimes. Corps Commander Adekunle Isaac Omoyele disclosed that prompt intervention by security personnel ensured the suspects were apprehended swiftly.
“The first convict, Sikiru Raheem, a 30-year-old male, was arrested for stealing a Ford Jeep valued at N7 million from the Oke-Onitea area of Osogbo. The vehicle belonged to Olukokun Morayo. Upon investigation, Raheem admitted to stealing the car with the intention of selling it for N1.5 million, confessing that it was not his first offense,” Omoyele stated.
The second convict, 20-year-old Azeez Afeez, was arrested on February 23, 2025, for burglary. He broke into a residence and stole various items, including a standing fan, torchlight, TV cables, a solar radio, a bag of bulbs, wires, an MP3 player, and two mobile phones, an MPs and an Itel A33. The stolen goods, valued at approximately N420,000, belonged to two victims, Oyagbile Bose and Mrs. Adebisi Grace. During interrogation, Afeez confessed to stealing the items for personal gain and admitted to previous offenses.
The Osun Amotekun Corps urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities. Omoyele reiterated that the convictions underscored the corps' dedication to ensuring safety and order in the state, warning that criminals would face the full weight of the law.
“These prosecutions serve as a stern warning to others involved in crime. The Amotekun Corps remains committed to maintaining peace and security for all residents of Osun State,” he said.
