Following the cancellation of the April 2 National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has rescheduled all elections to accommodate the development.
Consequently, National Assembly elections will hold nationwide on Saturday, April 9, 2011. The Presidential elections earlier scheduled for that day have now been shifted to Saturday April 16, 2011 while State Houses of Assembly and Governorship elections have been shifted to Tuesday April 26, 2011.
According to the INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega while making the announcement this evening, the Commission 'weighed all options' before deciding on the new dates.
INEC had met with representatives of all political parties prior to the announcement of the decision by the chairman.
