The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, to appear before it over allegations of fraud. The anti-graft commission said the Speaker must appear before it on Thursday, May 26, 2011 to answer for the allegation of fraud.
An EFCC source said the Speaker was invited following a petition on the N10 billion loan, which had generated controversy in the lower chamber of the National Assembly. Apart from the N10 billion scam, Daily Sun learnt that the Speaker was summoned over another pending petition involving N9 billion brought before the EFCC by some members of House of Representatives under the aegis of “The Progressives.”
The Speaker, Daily Sun gathered, would also answer charges on a N4 billion NECOM House purchase deal involving a company said to led by his father, Chief Alani Bankole.
Sources at both the Lagos and Abuja offices of the EFCC told Daily Sun that an invitation has been served on Bankole. “Yes, we’re expecting him on Thursday to answer question on three petitions before us. We have no doubt that he would answer the invitation. It is just a routine invitation,”. However, effort to reach the Mr. Femi Babafemi, spokesman of the EFCC last night for confirmation failed as he was said to be out of the country.
Similarly, the former Governor of Enugu State, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani was yesterday arrested by EFCC operatives following allegation of N55 billion. He will be spirited to Enugu where he is expected to be arraign on fresh charges.
