At least 3 people have been confirmed dead, and 8 others wounded in another wave of killings that took place in Bitaro village, in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses report that individuals, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, surrounded houses in the village early on Sunday and attacked. The state police commissioner, Balla Nasarawa, declined to give further details, but confirmed that no arrests have been made. While some reports put the number of casualties at three, with eight wounded, Police Spokesman Aminu Mohammed told the press that the precise number of those injured remains unknown. The spokesman, who gave further details of the attack to press, disputed reports that gunfire was involved. He said that four homes were attacked by men wielding machetes and knives at around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. Mohammed said, “As I speak, the police and soldiers keeping the peace in the area are combing the bushes for the attackers. They killed two men and a woman. I do not know the number of those injured, but they are being treated at a nearby hospital. We hope to get them from where they are hiding.”
