THERE was massive explosion at Marina jetty in Lagos yesterday evening leaving one person critically injured. The explosion involved a Britiannia U1 oil barge suspected to be used for illegal bunkering business.

The incident, which happened about 5 p.m. opposite the United Bank for Africa Plc in Marina shook the foundation of the bank, making people to scamper for safety, thinking that the dreaded Boko Haram sect had struck in Lagos.

The ship, which was said to have arrived at the jetty in August from Ogula field in Delta State, works for Chevron petroleum and was said to be undergoing maintenance when the incident occurred.

One of the officials identified as Mr. Pius was uncompromising and did not want to volunteer information as to what really happened.

Just as reporters were trying to talk to the security man, the Director of the State Security Service whose name was not immediately confirmed came into scene thereby making it impossible for journalists to go into the premises.
