A US woman was facing child endangerment charges today after allegedly dangling her one-year-old niece from the window of a moving car in Houston.
The alleged incident occurred on Thanksgiving, KPRC-TV reported. Two women driving on the Sam Houston Tollway saw the baby girl hanging from one of the car's rear windows and called police.
The police dispatcher asked the women to follow the car until a patrol car could catch up to it. They followed the vehicle - which drove at speeds between 88km/h and 104km/h - for almost 32km before a patrol car arrived.
By the time the car was pulled over, the baby had been pulled back inside.
Gabrielle Handy, 19, was arrested and charged with endangering a child. She has denied dangling her niece outside the car.
Police said the baby's mother did not have an explanation for what happened.
