Monarch charges Igbos to invest at home.

Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora have been charged to invest at home to boost the economy of the South-eastern States and provide job opportunities for youths.

The traditional ruler of Umuchu in Aguata area of Anambra State, Igwe Gody Ezechukwu, gave this charge in Lagos at the weekend, during the Umuchu Cultural Day celebration, organized by Umuchu Improvement Union,(UIU), Lagos branch. He commended their exemplary business acumen, enterprise and spirit to invest which he explained, would uplift them to greater heights.

Igwe Ezechukwu said that there was nothing wrong in investing where one lives, but charity begins at home, stressing that Igboland needs development and therefore Ndigbo should invest in their land for development.

He commended the UIU for marking Umuchu Cultural Day, adding that such event would afford the world to know and understand the rich cultural heritage of Umuchu. The chairman of the union, Chief Nestor Ezelibe, extolled the rich Umuchu cultures and values and said that the event was marked to showcase the culture which Umuchu was known for.

He explained that the event was organized for Umuchu sons and daughters to come together and afford them the opportunity to dialogue and plan on how best to develop Umuchu. He thanked those who made the event possible through donations and moral support.

The union’s Financial Secretary, Mr. Casmir Ngonadi, in the same vein expressed his commitment to contribute towards the development of Umuchu and called all indigenes of the town to come up with ideas and programmes that would bring meaningful development in Umuchu.

The planning committee chairman, Mr. Chike Ezeanya, a pharmacist, expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the event and promised to ensure a befitting Umuchu civic centre in Lagos state very soon.

The chairman on the occasion, Chief Chris Ezeoguinye, appealed to the Umuchu people to come together to develop the town. The event was marked with the display of Umuchu popular masquerades and women cultural dancers and other dance groups.
