Well, if I was a lady and a guy was going to take me to lunch or dinner on a first date... my alarms would go off and I would begin to suspect he has nothing in himself worthy of me, so he wants buy my attention/affection with food, or try to impress me with how much money he has.

HECK! WRONG MESSAGE! WRONG MESSAGE!!

It's a first date... we're trying to get to know each other... so it's ok to just take a walk in the park, walk along the beach, or just take a stroll in the (or next) neighourhood... or my favorite - just have a drink together.

I'm willing to bet that most first dates went sour just 'cos there are two strangers sitting face to face at a table in awkward (and embarrasing) silence with no idea of what to talk about. Which would never happen if you guys were walking and intermittently commenting/making jokes on the sights. (Well, unless you're both boring as hell!)

Fortunately, I'm an interesting guy, charming and... u know... good looking... and I almost never buy lunch or dinner on a first date. And I definitely get more "thanks, it was fun" SMSs than the "lunch/dinner guys"
