It shouldn't really be a prerequisite so long she is willing 2 be taught.
A lady should know how 2 cook food not only for her hubby but for herself also. Even if she isn't a good cook, she should be ready to learn.

its necceassary to know how to cook before getting marry. bcos some men cherish food. and without dat a woman can loose her love. is even in our culture dat says in yoruba "obinrin o niwa olohun olori oko, and the cooking is part the "iwa" in yoruba land. so to me its neccessary.

Eheem, I think d above may explain why i am still single, because i can't cook and wont cook.
I have a very busy lifestyle, love my takeaways and i can afford to buy them so why should i learn to cook?
If my intended (if i eva find one) wants food cooked, i will suggest he cooks it himself and clean up afterwards. I'm sure the thought of cleaning a crisp white kitchen will soon convert him into a takeaway fan.

CAPRICE, I LIKE AND LOVE YOUR COMMENT ON THIS TOPIC. SO IF YOU WANT TO EAT YOUR THREE SQUARE MEALS, YOU BUY TAKEAWAYS? .  IF YOU HAVE KIDS [I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE]  YOU BUY THEM TAKEAWAYS TOO?  YOU MUST BE MAKING 6 DIGITS THEN. EVERY WOMAN/ADY CAN COOK, IT MIGHT NOT BE DELICIOUS ENOUGH FOR ER MAN.  MATRIMONIAL HOME IS SCHOOL WHERE YOU LEARN EVERYDAY. I CAN MARRY A LADY WHO CAN NOT COOK BUT READY TO LEARN THAN " TAKEAWAY IS GOOD" I LOVE "SOUL FOOD" THAN JUNKS THAT ARE PREPARED IN UNHYGIENIC ENVIROMENT THAT YOU DON'T SEE BUT BELIEVED TO BE CLEAN.

During courtship, some men might overlook such. But courtship is different to marriage. In marriage the man's eye opens and he begins to see the faults he never saw in courtship leading to a changed man. As a young African man, I believe it is the responsibility of the lady to cook in the house. If I get married I might do such as a surprise to my wife in situations like when am on leave at work and she is off to work or whenever she is down healthwise or pregnant. I might prepare something for the family before they come back just to create a kind of a romantic atmosphere. But cooking should not be seen as my responsibility in the house...I advise all young ladies out there to learn how to cook if they aspire to have a happy home.. Thanks

Thanx daytel i can c ur point. H/e my lifestyle is very simple.  I only eat twice a day, breakfast- always porridge then lunch (take away or I dine with friends at a resturant) rarely eat after 4pm. I just drink tea and coffee and carry on working untill i fall asleep on my desk.

I suppose, if i meet d right man, i may be tempted to learn how to cook but even if i did learn, i dont know if i will have d time to cook, i work nearly 14 hours a day reducing to 7 hours at the w/e, 6 days a week.
Out of interest what is Soul food?

if she is welling to learn no shaking. bt friends believe it or not THE BEST WAY TO GET TO A MANS HEART IS TRU HIS STOMACH NOT TRU BED. Its real. its in human nature, we go to where we get good food. Lets not desive ourslevs here, it matters alot friends. We re africans not westerners. But love supersid all.

Well to cook should not be a prerequisite for marrying a lady.I believe that love begins in the kitchen. The male should also be an active partaker in issues that concerns the kitchen. When there is love there should be an opportunity to the advantage person to teach the disadvantaged fellow on the base and principles asociated in cooking.

In an ideal world it wouldn't even be in the top ten criteria, but in real life, people need food to survive, and good food at that. Besides, having a wife that can cook is cheaper than going out all the time or paying for someone else to do it.

Hey pals,
I strictly believe marriage is about tolerance and understanding; also if the woman is willing to learn how to cook.if the woman i want to marry does not know how to cook, i will take my time to enrol her in a catheirine school where she can learn how to cook. LOVE IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE OTHER PERSONS WEAKNESS AND TRYING TO HELP THE PERSON IMPROVE ON THAT ASPECT OF LIFE.
