A road accident involving an 18 seater commercial bus has claimed the lives of 14 passengers at Zabali village along Bauchi-Potiskum road in Yobe State.

The bus was said to be coming from the Bauchi end of the road in the early hours of today when the bus driver rammed into a stationary truck parked by the roadside.
Yobe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Usman Umar who confirmed the accident said the 18 seater bus with registration number XR 01 FKY crashed into a truck parked along the road at about 5am local time, adding that the crash sparked the fire that roasted all the 14 passengers to death.
The FRSC boss said that two identifiable corpses out of 14 have been deposited at the Potiskum mortuary while the remaining 12 have been given mass burial at the scene of the accident as they were burnt beyond recognition.
He added that through the timely intervention of villagers, four passengers were saved from being roasted to death. The survivors, he said, are presently at the Potiskum General Hospital where they are being treated.
