This Osu issue of a thing is very serious and know 1 should joke about it, I Have met a girl who happens to be my friend she comes around, My family know her and knows we are friends, They think we had no strong feels for each, But after our SSCE exam, My Dad who always call the said girl her daughter in law called me one hot afternoon and warm me seriously to be very careful in anything i have with the girl, His reasons was she is Osu and our family been a christian family can"t stop that. He showed me people who marry Osu and how they suffer not only from their family, But in the marriage. I played to the tone of my dad,  I keep off at once. Let not blame the dude. ok

People blame this guy for a tradition he cannot change. He might have slept with the girl several times but it does not make them one nor Osu. But marriage makes them one body one soul, in the same manner some persons on this forum had several girl friends before marriage but are only one with their wives. The stigma does not end with the couples but extends to their children, grandchildren and generations to come. Some persons on this forum will easily drop their fiancee because of no approval from parents but are quick to criticize someone faced with this monster tradition. I blame the church for not taking a strong stand on this tradition. Most traditional leaders in the Igbo community where OSU is practiced are Christians. Most council of elders or Igwe cabinet as the case may be are Christians too. It only takes a pronouncement from these people that this tradition has been abolished and so it will be. A traditional ruler once attempted abolishing OSU in his community but was asked by the council of elders to prove his commitment by giving out one of his daughters to OSU family, the ruler declined. I believe that if the church openly fights this menace through denials and non-recognition in their fold (of these people that can abolish this system), there will be hope in those community.

The root and basis of the “OSU” system is crime-and-punishment,  those who were guilty of such crimes and were meted their punishment have already served out their sentence. There is no justice in extending the punishment to innocent and unknowing offspring, nor was that the intent of the system then. For that reason, the application of the term, “OSU,” to any living person today is a wrong and unjust imputation, and unnecessary victimization.,,,ALL LAWS ARE MADE BY MAN,,,,MAN IS NOT MADE FOR THE LAW..
