Italian Serie A winning Coach, Jose Mourinho is expected in Nigeria on June 24 to begin a five-day visit to Ilorin, as the Kwara State capital continues to reinforce its new status as a global football destination.
The Inter Milan coach, who is one of the best tacticians in the world, as he has virtually won all the biggest trophies in club football, is coming to Kwara Football Academy (KFA), one of Africa’s biggest football schools located in Ilorin.
Mourinho, who has a Ph.D. in Sports Management, will be involved in coaching, training and marketing to further raise the growing profile of the academy as a global football brand.
The self-styled ‘Special One’, will also meet the Nigerian high network football family as well as local and the international sports media in Lagos and Ilorin.
Also, Mourinho will among other things, coach the KFA side during a high-profile international friendly between the KFA and an international academy side.
The visit of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup winner is already creating excitement in the country and is seen as a very big development given Mourinho’s status as a transformer of talents.
Nigeria being a country globally known for the abundant raw soccer talents she has, will welcome Mourinho, who will for the first time, sit down to study and fully appreciate these talents at a time major leagues are fortifying for next season.
Nkechi Obi, CEO Premium Sports Marketing Services, Consultant to KFA, is ecstatic about the visit of one of the most celebrated football coaches on earth. She disclosed: “The ex-Porto and Chelsea coach will storm Ilorin and be a guest to Governor Bukola Saraki, founder of the KFA and Dutchman Clemens Westerhof, the KFA’s director. His name will be listed among the biggest visitors to the Academy, which already has Dr Issah Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Piet de Visser, personal assistant and football scout to Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire owner of Chelsea among the roll call.”
Obi lavished eulogies on the Coach of Internazionale de Milan, who won the Scudetto in his debut season just as he did at Chelsea FC of England after freshly winning the Portuguese League and the European Champions League with FC Porto in his native Portugal.
She went on: “The visit of the Special One will greatly lift the spirits of the KFA boys and raise the bar in the Academy’s administration. It will be the climax for KFA so far.”
