Historically, many white ladies going for successful men of color do so for the money and nothing more no matter how deeply involved they are in the relationship. They flare up at the slightest slip .   Whereas family can still come in to stabilize the family if the spouse is a  fellow kinsman .  So in a way there is sense in the brotherly advice .  though the truth is often  a bitter  2 swallow
