Newly appointed Defense Minister Aliyu Gusau has resigned.

Mr. Gusau’s sudden decision to quit President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet arose from what the former minister considered an act of insubordination and indiscipline from Nigeria’s top military brass.

Several sources at the Defense Ministry told SaharaReporters that Nigeria’s top military officers yesterday refused to have a joint meeting with Mr. Gusau and his deputy, Musikilu Obanikoro, a former senator.

Sources at the ministry told SaharaReporters that Nigeria’s top military henchmen kept Mr. Gusau waiting for two days after he summoned them to a meeting, with different military service chiefs making excuses for their inability to meet with him and his deputy immediately. Finally, the situation turned testy yesterday when, after keeping Mr. Gusau and Mr. Obanikoro waiting for several hours, the Chief of Defense Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, showed up alone for a meeting.

“When Air Marshal Badeh showed up, the Minister of Defense told him he was expecting all the chiefs of staff within the military, but Badeh reportedly told him there was no need,” said one source at the ministry. Our sources added that Badeh also told Mr. Gusau that he alone would be meeting with the minister as the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), stating that this arrangement was the collective decision of military officers in the country.

One source said an attempt by the junior minister of defense, Mr. Obanikoro, to intervene was rudely brushed aside as Badeh asked him to “shut up.” “Air Marshal Badeh is said to have called Senator Obanikoro a ‘small boy’ and warned him that the military was not going to be taking orders anymore from bloody civilians like him,” one source stated.

Soon after the altercation, General Gusau (rtd) reportedly ended the meeting and asked the Permanent Secretary in the ministry to transmit his letter of resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan.

This is a serious matter……

Why did Nigeria’s top military officers refused to have a joint meeting with the minister and his deputy?

Did Air Marshal Badeh actually called Senator Obanikoro a ‘small boy’?
Did Badeh also asked Obanikoro to “shut up” and that the military was not going to be taking orders anymore from bloody civilians like him?

Who is the boss the minister or the Chief of Defense Staff?
Truly if this story is true it was an act of insubordination and indiscipline.
The minister was once Chief of Army Staff an experienced career soldier.
This should not be happening when fellow Nigerians are being slaughtered or butchered every day.

I think we need more than “Divine Intervention” in this country.

President Goodluck Jonathan has continued sending emissaries to help him convince his newly appointed Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau, to rescind his resignation.  The Minister was barely one week old on the job when he resigned today following an ominous blowout with the country’s military chiefs.

As previously reported by SaharaReporters, Mr. Gusau followed up his decision, which reportedly shocked Mr. Jonathan, by refusing to attend the weekly cabinet meeting.  Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati has claimed Gusau did not attend the meeting because he “had a flu.”

However, SaharaReporters had spoken earlier with the Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musikilu Obanikoro, who confirmed there was a disagreement between the new Minister and the military top brass, although he tried to downplay it by describing it as “slight.”

Onyibochukwu....Let’s be honest with each other.

I am sure if you have a boss you will not tell him or her to shut up because of younger age
...even if you are self-employed the same thing will apply….
...you cannot tell your customers to shut up because they are young otherwise you'll be out of business.

More importantly the minister is the boss and Badeh is so junior to him age wise and militarily also Obanikoro is his boss.

The report by an online medium earlier today that the Minister of Defense, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau (rtd.) has resigned is untrue.
General Gusau remains in Office as Minister of Defence.
His absence from today’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council which was cited in support of the false report of his resignation was with the permission of President Goodluck Jonathan.

I think both parties are afraid to reveal something that will expose a hidden secret that would have affect them, after all how can {Air Marshal Badeh calling Senator Obanikoro a ‘small boy and Badeh saying Obanikoro to “shut up that the military was not going to be taking orders anymore from bloody civilians like him} be their reason for not holding an important meeting like this. I just pray that God will put anyone with skeleton on his cupboard to shame very soon in Jesus name Amen.
