Nine Died And Nine Injured In Bus Accident In Ogun

Nine people burnt to death in a fire on Lagos commercial bus on Warewa Long Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, on April 5th.

The accident occurred around 4pm this Saturday, with 9 people burnt beyond recognition and 9 others who got injuries. According to police reports, there were 6 people dead, however, the Federal Road Safety Corps reported of 9 deaths.

Chidi Nkwonta, the sector commander, FRSC, claimed that “The accident was a lone crash. According to first-hand information, the bus was coming from Ibafo in Ogun State and heading to Ketu in Lagos when the accident occurred. Nine people were injured while nine were burnt beyond recognition.

The bus, a yellow Mazda, was filled to required capacity when the accident happened.

“The injured persons have been rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre, Ojota. Investigations are ongoing,” Nkwonta added.
Due to the accident, traffic was very busy for several hours as the rescue officials were evacuating the vehicle.

According to the correspondent of Punch, 6 corpses were delivered to the Mortuary of Sagamu General Hospital.

The family members of those recognized, were yet to be identified.

Police source reported that “the corpses as well as items one could have used in identifying the corpses were burnt. So, we are stuck. People should feel free to walk into the mortuary and check for missing loved ones.”
