During a media parley held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Wheatbaker Hotel in preparation for the premiere of the Half of A Yellow Sun movie, he explained why he claimed to be originally from London while on the Ellen Degeneres show.
According to him, it was because it (London) is his place of birth and not because he wanted to dissociate himself from Nigeria.

‘I was trying to give a honest answer about where I was born and so I said London, which was where I was born. To me, it was a surprising reaction that people then concluded that I was saying I did not identify as a Nigerian. I’m Nigerian-British but if you ask me where I was born or where I am originally from, I can’t say Enugu because I wasn’t born there‘, he said.
This guy clearly does not know whats up! Man, you are clearly from Nigeria either you know it, like it or not, because now you are winning awards and you have an Igbo name, if you are not originally from Nigeria then you must change your name to a British name, but even with that #wenogogree

poster,pls get a lyf.he never made a mistake by saying dat he is a british.names does not mean nationality,so many of us dat are bearing english name,does it mean dat wear from british??so he needs not to tender an apology to anyone,even some nigerians dat was born in naija but gut a nationality from any other country can still say the same thing cos they ar no longer nigerians but nigeria born.so get dat into ur head.dat someone is bearing an igbo name does not make him a nigerian,cos u cant have a nationality of a country dat o dont speak their language.

poster,for instance,i was also born in enugu,speaks igbo very well,but left naija when i was12 yrs,i have spanish nationality,and also bears igbo name,but i cant claim to be a nigerian if im not using nigeria passport.i visit nigeria all the times,and i come with a nigeria visat stamped to my spanish passport.so u tell me,if im a nigerian as claimed,how den can do i need a visa to visit a country dat u claimed to be mine.??.

carrying a spanish passport does not make you spanish. you are a full-blooded Nigerian, and also a naturalized citizen of Spain. next time, apply for a Nigerian passport and you won't need a visa on it to visit Nigeria.
