LAGOS — Barely one week after a mother of seven was found dead in a hotel room in Mushin area of Lagos State, Policemen at Area ‘ E’, Festac, have commenced investigation into the discovery of a lifeless body of a pregnant woman in a hotel in Alaba-Rago area of the state.
The deceased, identified as Kariatu Saidu, was said to have checked into the hotel in the company of one Gambo Musa at about 9.30 a.m, last Friday.
Trouble, however, started the following day after the lady, said to have taken ill midnight, went into coma. But before she could be rushed to a hospital, she had reportedly given up the ghost. In his statement to the police, her companion who was subsequently arrested, claimed to have met the deceased a forthnight before the incident, in her pregnant state.
Preliminary investigation by the police is yet to establish whether the deceased was married, as no one had reportedly come for her.
But there are strong indications that the deceased could have attempted taking abortion induced drugs. This premise, the command’s spokesman, Mr Frank Mba, said, formed part of the comprehensive investigation going on.
“We are carrying out comprehensive investigation to ascertain whether the death was natural or that the lady took abortion induced drugs. There was obvious pregnancy as at the time she was carried to the mortuary.
But autopsy report will scientifically confirm how many months pregnancy it was and other necessary information that will help us in the investigation,” Mba said.
The case, he said, had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, where detectives at the Homicide section have begun investigation to unravel the cause of the death.
