THE alleged kidnappers of the father of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, have been arrested by the police.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ogbonna Onovo, made the disclosure during the monthly meeting with senior police officers in Abuja. Though he did not give details, he said he would parade them and address a press conference on the issue next week.

The IGP, speaking on the trend of kidnapping in the country, said “we are on top of the situation. I just want you to know that we have arrested the kidnappers of Pa Soludo and they are in our custody.”

Meanwhile, Cross River State has witnessed its first kidnap incident, as kidnappers stormed Igoli in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state and abducted Mrs. Victoria Idiege, one of the wives of a member of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Signor Idiege.

The incident was said to have occurred on Monday, when Mrs. Idiege was kidnapped by armed men at Igoli in Ogoja. The woman was kidnapped while going to pick her children from school around 3.00 p.m and was taken to an unknown destination.

The Personal Assistant to the lawmaker, Mr. Willy Akobi, confirmed the incident, adding that the kidnappers had called the husband to demand for a ransom.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Etim Dickson, said he was yet to get full details of the incident from the area command which was handling the case.
