The All Progressives Congress will carry out another primary election for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in Bayelsa.
This comes after the party declared the election, which former governor Timipre Sylva won, as void.
According to Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the primaries will be conducted on a yet-to-be-announced date.
“The primary has been rescheduled. It had to be called off due to security challenges,’’ Oyegun said.
Edo state governor Adams Oshiomole, who is the chairman of the committee for the election, claimed the election didn’t hold after thugs invaded the venue.
According to Oshiomole, the thugs insisted that the elections be carried out without accreditation of the delegates.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank said categorically that the party didn’t recognize the primary held in the state.
“I am speaking as a concern citizen of the state that this primary is not acceptable anywhere. In a situation where all other aspirants walked out of the venue and a particular aspirant put a member of the primary election committee under duress to declare him a winner, with the chairman of committee, Oshiomhole, and the secretary not present,” Frank said.
“I believe the party will soon come up with a position on that fraud call primary election and schedule a date when an acceptable primary election will be accepted,” Frank added.
