The Governor said the town hall meeting was put together as part of efforts to continually create a platform for generation of ideas and solutions to confront security challenges facing the State, and to reassure the security agencies of the commitment of government to ensure their success.
While explaining that the N4.8 billion recently used to equip the police came from tax payers, Governor Ambode said that under his administration, such funds generated from the public will be accounted for and utilised to safeguard the lives of those who have chosen the state as home.
On his part, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni thanked Governor Ambode for the equipment donated to the police, adding that the command had been challenged and motivated by the gesture to do more.
The Lagos State Police Command according to the CP  recorded at least 220 murder, 44 armed robbery and 25 kidnap cases as well as recovered 233 stolen vehicles and items worth N1.4 billion between January and November 2015.
While reeling out the statistics of the crimes perpetrated across the state within the period under review,  Owoseni said there was improvement in response time to distress calls, dominance of security space and intense investigation as well as detection of crime based in the state.
He lamented that the most prevalent crime in the state was murder, saying; “220 cases were recorded between January and November 2015 and a large number of the cases were occasioned by cult clashes and street fights.”
Owoseni noted that 27 of the cases were recorded in January while 15, representing the lowest, were recorded in March.
A brief breakdown of the crime scenes in the state showed that 26 of the cases were recorded within Area C, Surulere, followed by Area N, Ijede in Ikorodu with 25 cases.
