A 37-year-old palm wine tapper, Iliya Woya, of Manta village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, has admitted killing a man, Abubakar Hussani, for stealing his palm wine.
Woya, who was arraigned before a Minna Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Ahmed Bima, also accused the man he shot dead with a locally made gun of defecating in his calabash after stealing the palm wine.
The suspect standing trial in a case of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code, said he had no regret for killing the deceased, whom he alleged stole his palm wine at Baji Manta village.
The charge against the suspect read: "That you Iliya Woya of Baji Manta village went to the riverside to check your palm wine on March 7, 2010 and met one Abubakar Hussaini, now deceased, stealing your palm wine and you used your locally made gun to shoot him to death."
The suspect while responding to the charges admitted that he committed the crime and said he had no regret over the incident.
He insisted that the deceased deserved the fate following the havoc wreaked on him and his means of livelihood.
Meanwhile, the magistrate said the court lacked jurisdiction to handle the matter, adding that the case would be transferred to an appropriate court.
