A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Thursday postponed the judgment earlier reserved for today (Thursday) in a case between the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the removal of his name on the party’s primary election list.

The court, DAILY POST recalls had on Wednesday reserved until today (Thursday) judgment in the case between Shittu and the APC over the party’s primary election.

The minister, who is also a member of the APC, dragged the party to court, seeking redress for allegedly being denied participation in the governorship primary election in Oyo State in the recent general elections in the country.

He claimed that APC’s national leadership omitted his name in the list of its gubernatorial aspirants for the primaries in Oyo State because he did not participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

After filing of written addresses by the plaintiff and the defendants, the Judge, Justice P.I. Ajoku, on Wednesday, fixed Thursday (today) afternoon for judgment on the relieves sought by the minister.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Abdulhakeem Mustafa (SAN), had, among all other things, urged the court to determine whether the ground for disqualifying his client was lawful or a contravention of the constitution.

Mustafa argued that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria required anyone seeking to be a state governor to possess a maximum of Senior Secondary School Certificate and not necessarily an NYSC certificate.

However, many of the journalists and observers who thronged the Federal High Court, Ibadan premises for the judgment reserved for 2 p.m. were informed that the judgment has been shifted to 2 p.m on Friday.

The reason for the postponement is yet to be revealed as at the time of filing this report on Thursday.

All efforts made by DAILY POST to know why it was postponed till tomorrow proved abortive.
