NMVA in fresh breath, gets dates

By Lolade Sowoolu

As the entertainment industry and indeed the whole of Nigeria brace up for a lot of entertainment action particularly as the year is rounding off, questions continue to pour in as touching the sustenance of the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA); the novel award that debuted at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotels last year on the stables of Callivision Network.

Mr Cally Ikpe, initiator of the NMVA and CEO of Callivision Network has not only affirmed the continuity of the NMVA but gone ahead to announce dates for this year’s edition while speaking on the effect of competition in music video awards hosting in the country.

According to him, “ It is very healthy for the industry. In fact a lot more are welcomed. The more the merrier. It shows that I’m championing a good course”. The music video awards pioneer stated that he would give his full support to any course that would further the course of entertainment particularly music promotion in Nigeria, ‘It’s a small world and would indeed get a lot bigger if we support each other’, he submitted.

As he and his team finalise plans for the follow-up edition- NMVA ‘08, the broadcaster has announced a modification in the award categories that will be considered in this year’s award ceremony.

This he says is a product of the brain storming interactive session held among the entertainment industry stakeholders two months back.

The new categories, he disclosed, will be made public in a soon-to-be- held press conference that will flag off the submission of entries for this year’s edition and formally make public the dates for the ceremony.

However, the last weekend in the month of November has being decided on by the organisers.
Even though Cally has again stressed sponsorship as a challenge he insists that the show will go on.

“We are presently working very hard on the next edition which is due at about the same period we had the last one. We should be confirming that (the dates- 29th and 30th of November) shortly during the press conference coming soon.

We are bent on a classier show, world class this time”, he concluded.
