Actually, most religious people DO view religion itself as being man-made. Namely, they view it as man's attempt to connect to things that they believe are NOT man-made.

Though it is interesting to note how religions are the product of their environment and other religions. For example, you don't find Protestantism, which stresses personal Biblical study, happening before the invention of the printing press. You don't find concepts of "Thou Shalt Not Steal" in African bushmen who don't hold much of a concept of personal possession, since they live in an abundance of raw materials and the items they make aren't completely unique.
