15 injured, 1 kidnapped during PDP primaries in Osun

No fewer than 15 persons, on Wednesday, sustained injuries in the crisis which broke out between two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ede-South Local Government Area of Osun State and those that sustained injuries were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The crisis broke out over the allegation of imposition of candidate on the people. Hired thugs, it was gathered, unleashed terror on the residents of the area, inflicting wounds on innocent persons and passers-by.

It took the police several hours to put the situation under control as the hoodlums resisted the move of the police to calm them down.

Besides, the state police command had arrested 17 people for allegedly causing violence during the councillorship primaries which was held on Tuesday.

The state police commissioner, Solomon Olusegun, disclosed this to newsmen, on Wednesday, when he paraded the suspects at the police headquarters in Osogbo.

The suspects, according to the police, were arrested at different locations in the state during the party’s primaries. Weapons such as cutlasses, axes, dagger and charms were recovered from them by the police.

In another development, the  party’s primaries for the election of the councillors and chairman of the Ilesa West Local Government Area of the state was on Wednesday marred with serious conflicts which led to the kidnapping of one of the aspirants and many injured.

According to an eyewitness, who begged for anonymity, delegates engaged in fisticuffs in their bid to ensure that their aspirants emerged winners at all costs.

The primaries, which started on Tuesday, for the councillors and Wednesday for the chairman, were scheduled to hold at Ijesa Elite Club, Osogbo road, Isokun area, Ilesa, but were shifted to the Lekson Hotel.

However, the Nigerian Tribune gathered that trouble started when some aspirants accused the chairman of the local government, Honourable Ibukun Fadipe, who was present at the venue, of intimidating and molesting delegates because of their refusal to do his biddings.
