Their arrest, which was aided by intelligence report, also led to the seizure of a DAF truck, marked XB 841 SUL, which the suspects used to convey the fuel.
The names of the suspects are Daouda Mohammed, who is the driver of the truck, David Baba and Bassey Asuquo.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the executive officer, NNS Victory command, Navy Captain Adekunle Okeniyi, said the three persons were apprehended around Akpabuyo Local Government in the state.
He hinted that they were allegedly involved in trans-shipment of fuel from small vessels or boats to trucks along the sea, an act, which he said was illegal.
Navy Captain Okeniyi, who disclosed that the petroleum product was loaded at Ikang Jetty, in Bakassi Local Government, said that “the existence of adultrated fuel in circulation has been traced to the activities of people involved in the illicit trans-shipment business.”
He observed that the seized 33,000 litres of fuel did not have waybill or invoice to authenticate that the product was sourced legally.
The Navy boss stated that his command decided to mount surveillance and monitor oil tankers within Cross River State with a view to checkmating the influx of contaminated fuel and arrest the culprits who were involved in the criminal act.
