Dr Saraki made this known to newsmen on Tuesday, in Ilorin, Kwara State, shortly after hosting the presidential aspirant of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari.
He said “very soon, Northern Union will look at whether to support President Goodluck Jonathan or a northern candidate for the 2011 presidential elections.”
He said “Jonathan is a very humble person. I met him yesterday and I don’t have anything against him, but the only snag is that the people of Niger Delta have not consulted the NU on Jonathan’s ambition.”
On his purported defection to CPC, Saraki clarified that “I have not decided to go to CPC. We discussed with General Buhari and I asked him to give me the network of CPC in Nigeria.
“We never discussed we in Kwara joining CPC. Yes, there is a problem in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. It is true PDP in Kwara State has a problem. I don’t like what they are doing. My son is the governor and I’m proud of his achievements. What I don’t like is that he has left the party so loose to the extent that people who cannot win councillorship election in their wards are showing interest in the gubernatorial race.”
Earlier, General Buhari had told Saraki that he was in town to see him after his return from the United States (US) where he had gone for medical attention.
He used the opportunity to brief the NU leader on the network and strength of the CPC in the country.
