As part of efforts to maintain peace and order during the re-run governorship election on Thursday, the Delta State Government on Wednesday donated 10 bullet-proof patrol vans to the Nigerian police.
The Acting Governor of Delta State, Mr. Sam Obi, handed over the vans to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, Mr. Audu Abubakar, who is leading security operations for the election.
The acting governor said that it was his hope that the vans would assist the police in maintaining law and order during the election and at subsequent operations.
The DIG thanked the acting governor for the donation and promised that the police will put the vans to good use.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at the various offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.
The accreditation of journalists and other non-sensitive activities have been shifted from the state office of INEC.
