In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in the production of counterfeit alcoholic beverages at Oko-Arin Market, located on Lagos Island.

The announcement was made by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, on Friday in Lagos. Hundeyin disclosed that the arrests were made following credible intelligence received by the police.

According to Hundeyin, police detectives swooped in on the suspects at approximately 6:00 pm on Tuesday, prompted by reports of a group of individuals engaged in the illicit production of fake alcoholic drinks at Oko-Arin Market. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, Eko, was mobilized to the scene.

During the operation, law enforcement officers succeeded in apprehending two suspects aged 31 and 41 who were caught red-handed. However, other members of the alleged criminal syndicate managed to evade capture.

Items confiscated from the suspects included a cache of counterfeit alcohol brands, including five cartons of Jack Daniels Drinks, two cartons of Black Barrel drink, one carton of Williams Lawson drink, and one carton of Jameson drink. Additionally, police recovered one carton of Black Label drink, one carton of Remy Martins, six cartons of empty Glenfiddich bottles, and other paraphernalia used in the production process, such as assorted labels and corks.

Preliminary investigations have unveiled that the suspects were involved in the distribution of these illegal adulterated beverages, with their clientele extending to Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Hundeyin affirmed that the investigation is ongoing, indicating that further arrests and legal actions may follow as the authorities delve deeper into the matter.

The apprehension of these individuals marks a significant victory in the fight against illegal activities and underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
