Resident Doctors Resume Work After One Week Of Strike Action

Members of the Association of Resident Doctors across the country, on Monday, resumed duty after a one-week strike action to press the federal authorities for the release of two of their members in kidnappers captivity.

Three members were initially abducted, but one was later released after payment of ransom.

The victims have so far spent eight months, according to credible sources.

In a telephone chat in Ilorin on Monday, the chairman of the association at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital branch, Dr Muhammed Yusuf, said the association is giving the government another three-week ultimatum to resolve the issue.

He said the government pleaded that the strike be called off pending when the victims would be rescued, as the kidnappers could likely raise the stake again if the strike continues.

“The National Executive Council of the association resolved to give the government three weeks again within which to rescue the victims and then know the next line of action if nothing is done,” he said.

The members of the association commenced a one-week strike action last Monday to force the government to rescue the victims.

Man, that’s such a rough situation. I’m relieved the doctors are back at work, but it’s heartbreaking those kidnapped members are still missing. It’s crazy how stuff like this happens so often, and things don’t seem to improve. Really hoping the government steps up and gets something done in this three-week window. Fingers crossed for some good news soon.
