The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the tragic death of a 20-year-old man, allegedly shot and killed by gunmen in the Okokomaiko area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, detailing that the Okokomaiko Police Division was alerted by concerned residents on Friday at around 10:30 p.m.
According to Hundeyin, four unidentified gunmen were seen chasing the victim along Abeokuta Street in Okokomaiko, Ojo. "The gunmen shot the young man multiple times in the head, stomach, and leg until he succumbed to his injuries," he said. The assailants then fled the scene, abandoning the body.
Police officers responded to the call and arrived at the scene, where the victim’s mother, Vivian, identified the deceased as her son, who lived with her in the same area. A photograph of the victim was taken, and his body was transferred to Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy.
Hundeyin assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend the suspects in full force. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti-Yaba, for further inquiries.
