A 24-year-old hotel cleaner, Lucky Adejumo, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing $600 from a guest’s room at Delborough Hotel, Victoria Island. Police investigations claim Adejumo accessed the guest’s safe using a master key from the housekeeping store, unaware that his actions were recorded by CCTV cameras.
The incident reportedly came to light when the guest returned to find the money missing. After raising an alarm, hotel management reviewed the CCTV footage, which appeared to show Adejumo committing the theft. Following this discovery, the hotel contacted the Maroko Division police, leading to his arrest by a team headed by Inspector Otolor Monday under the direction of Divisional Police Officer CSP Ganiyu Raji.
Adejumo, a native of Kogi State, was brought before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court at Tinubu, Lagos Island, facing a single count of theft. Prosecution counsel Inspector Hafsat Ajibode stated that the alleged incident, occurring on October 19 and 25, 2024, involved the misuse of a master key entrusted to Adejumo, violating Section 287(7) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
During his court appearance, Adejumo pleaded not guilty to the charge. Chief Magistrate Mrs. Gbajumo Ayoku granted him bail set at N1,000,000, with two sureties in the same amount. Pending fulfillment of his bail terms, Adejumo was remanded to Ikoyi Correctional Facility, with the case adjourned for further hearing.
