A bomb explosion in the Basaa area of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, has claimed the life of a farmer, Isyaku Gambo.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Gambo, riding his motorcycle, reportedly stepped on an explosive device planted along the road between Unguwan-Usman village and Bassa. He was returning home with farm produce at the time of the tragedy.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with the explosion shattering the farmer's body.
“This is the first time we are experiencing this, and it is believed that the explosive device was planted by terrorists,” a source from the community revealed.
The event has left the community in shock, raising fears of escalating insecurity in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
The attack highlights the growing threats faced by rural communities in Niger State, where terrorist activities continue to disrupt daily life and endanger the lives of residents.
