A tragic fire outbreak has claimed the lives of a couple, 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and 52-year-old Fatima Uba, at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident, revealing that the fire broke out around midnight on Thursday, December 12. According to a statement by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, the distress call was received at 1:45 a.m.
Hassan Muhammad, Director of the Kano State Fire Service, explained that rescue teams were dispatched to the scene immediately and arrived at 1:51 a.m. Despite their efforts, the victims were found unconscious, with burns on parts of their bodies. They later succumbed to the effects of smoke inhalation.
The fire engulfed a bungalow measuring approximately 50 by 25 feet, which served as the couple's residence. Their bodies were handed over to Muhammad Rayyanu, the ward head of Rangaza in Ungogo Local Government Area.
Muhammad urged the public to prioritize fire safety and adhere to preventive measures to avoid such tragedies.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
