The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided the residence of a suspected drug dealer, 59-year-old Nwokedi Emeka Jonas, in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State on Tuesday, January 14. The operation led to the recovery of 10 parcels of "Canadian Loud," a synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 4.9 kilograms.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect had devised a sophisticated retail operation, using branded paper bags for packaging the psychoactive substance. The bags featured street names and codes such as "Dead Man," "Gelato Top Shelf Smoke," "TopShelf," and "Gelato Cake." These were allegedly designed to appeal to a specific clientele.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, in a statement, said the raid was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating within Lagos and across Nigeria. "The branding and packaging suggest a deliberate strategy to market the drugs as premium products," Babafemi noted.
The agency emphasized that this seizure highlights the evolving tactics of drug dealers to attract customers while evading detection. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation and potential links to other drug trafficking networks.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit substances.
