The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disrupted an attempt to export a synthetic strain of cannabis, known as "Loud," concealed inside a duvet and bound for the United Kingdom.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives intercepted the shipment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The contraband, comprising six parcels weighing 3.5 kilograms, was discovered during routine checks.
Two suspects, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun, were apprehended on January 21, 2025, in connection with the illicit operation. During questioning, Austin Balogun confessed to receiving ₦700,000 for facilitating the shipment. He claimed that a significant portion of the payment had been spent on export handling fees and renting an apartment.
The NDLEA has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of Nigeria's borders, urging citizens to provide information that could aid in the fight against illicit drug activities.
Investigations into the case are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face prosecution under the country’s drug laws.
