Quote from: pholake on 9-03-2011 09:04 AM It's so pathetic that a once-upon-a-time great footballer who brought Nigeria so much glory could be experiencing this........ Many things are wrong: Is it that the Nigerian Football Authority or Ministry of Sport has no programme in place to cater for national sports hero who fall on hard times? Both federal and state gov'ts should provide this guy with all expenses paid medical treatment abroad since they could do it for less worthy Nigeria what more this hero! I think the break up of his marriage might have contributed to his psychological breakdown. When he was in the limelight the wife was happy to share but now that he has fallen into hard times she is turning her back. Some wife, some women!

Quote from: nametalkam on 9-03-2011 12:42 AM Story by City People Magazine so so sad!!! In case you have not heard, one of Africa's greatest footballers, Rashidi Yekini, 47, is allegedly in dire straits as regards his sanity. The two-time African footballer of the year now walks the streets of Ibadan barefooted, a development that has shocked many people who knew him from his active playing days. Rashidi is said to suffer delusions, a neurological illness which hinges on belief that is pathological and held, despite evidence to the contrary. Neighbours at his Oni and Sons Ring Road residence in Ibadan say he's been acting strange for some time now, always seen talking to himself. Sources say sometime late last year, Yekini, in the full glare of neighbours, brought out his belongings and allegedly set it on fire. Yekini lives alone in his house, has a few tenants and rarely gets visitors. Since his marriage crashed in 1994, he hasn't remarried but has two children who visit him on holidays. Friends and some of his ex-team mates worried about his mental instability are trying to get him help. ![]() ![]() ![]()

So pathetic, i pray the Almighty God delivers him from whatever he is suffering from. He really deserves the attention of our govt., he is still a hero of Nigeria who played with so much love and passion for his country. My heart is heavy right now, it's a pity. Irresponsible set of selfish political businessmen that occupy leadership positions in this country that can never give a thing to promote their own country. Reply
