A one-storey building in Minna's Sabon Gari area collapsed on Friday, May 17, 2024, trapping several people inside. Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued seven individuals, who are now receiving treatment at Minna General Hospital.
Rescue operations are currently focused on manually clearing debris, with plans to mobilize machinery for a more thorough search and rescue effort to locate any remaining trapped victims.
The cause of the collapse remains undetermined at this time. Hussaini Ibrahim, Director of Information and Special Duties at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts.
Bako Ismail, General Manager of the Niger State Urban Development Board, revealed that the building had been illegally converted into a storey structure. The board had made multiple attempts to halt the illegal modifications prior to the collapse.
