Just when Isabella Ayuk won the 2012 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) beauty pageant, controversies arose about her true age.

Some alleged that Isabella was over aged and not 26 she claimed to be. Now, an e-mail leaked which seems to expose the whole issue.

In a phone conversation with a Silverbird representative, Mr Alozie, he said Isabella is still the winner of MBGN and as such, still wears the crown.

He said that Isabella would only not be at the Miss World contest holding in China in August 2012.

Asked to comment on the purported leaked statement from Gay Bruce on the issue, he claimed an impostor may have written it.

Commenting on why Isabella would not be representing Nigeria at the Miss World Beauty pageant, Alozie said Isabella would not be going to the pageant due to her personal reasons.

On what the personal reasons are, he said Isabella's programme for the year would not rhyme with when the pageant would hold in August. He claimed that Isabella would only be free to attend the Miss Universe contest later in the year, which she would now represent Nigeria in.

The jealous housewife, Nike Fasoyinu, unleashed her anger on her husband, Amos, after suspecting that he was sleeping with other women.

Her husband was seriously injured  and was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated. The woman was arrested after the incident which happened at their residence at 34, Olaolu Omotosho street, Egan, on the outskirts of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria. The mother of two kids reportedly justified her action by saying that she suspected that her husband was sleeping around with other women.

We also gathered that the woman had earlier had a serious fight over the same issue with the victim she has been married to for five years.

The offence the police prosecutor said she comitted was contray to section 244 of the Criminal Code law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

The 27-year old woman has been arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrate’s court, Lagos. She pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till a further date.

Two Nigerian men living in Luton have been jailed in the UK following an elaborate scam to steal the identity of a dead British man.



According to the United Kingdom Border Control Agency, Mr. Finest Ifeanyi Arojie, 43, illegally entered the UK in 2005 and the following year, he obtained a copy of the birth certificate of a British man, James Samuel Walters, who died in New York in 1989.

In 2007 Arojie used the birth certificate to obtain a British passport in Mr Walters' identity, stating that he had lost his previous passport. There was no record of Mr Walters' death because it occurred outside the UK.

Arojie then used his fake British identity to gain employment as a forklift driver in Dunstable in July 2008.

In April 2009 Arojie sponsored the entry to the UK of a man claiming to be his 16-year-old son and calling himself Bright Walters. The pair lived at Old Bedford Road, Luton.

The scam started to unravel in December 2011 when UK Immigration officers from the criminal and financial investigations team interviewed a woman who claimed that she had been approached about taking part in a sham marriage by an African man using the name James Samuel Walters.

The officers discovered Walters was in Nigeria attempting to obtain visa for two children to reside in the UK and as a result of this investigation, both of these visas were refused.

On 16 December 2011, Arojie, who was travelling using the Walters passport, was stopped by our officers as he arrived at Heathrow airport.

On 11 January 2012 Bright Walters was arrested at his home address, where officers also found his British passport.

While Bright Walters was charged with obtaining leave to enter or remain in the UK by deception and possession of a false identity document and remanded in custody, Arojie was charged with 7 offences including fraud and conspiracy to facilitate a breach of the UK's immigration laws.

It was also gathered that UK Immigration officers continued to investigate the scam and, following enquiries with the Embassy officers in Nigeria, they became convinced that Bright Walters' real identity was Goodness Iroro Sokoh and that his true age was 24. Walters disputes this.

Arojie and Walters were convicted on 1 June following a week-long trial at Luton crown court. On the 15 June, Arojie was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months while Walters was jailed for 12 months.

According to the UK Border Agency said "Finest Arojie coldly took on the identity of a deceased British citizen to live and work illegally in the UK and to illicitly bring another man into the country. His callous crime showed no respect to the late Mr Walters or his family. It was a cruel act motivated by pure self-interest and I am pleased that we have been able to bring him before the courts"

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC regrets to announce the passing of 52 years old Italian, Mr. Mauro Zanin, a suspected fraudster two days before he was scheduled to appear in court.



He was found motionless in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja at about 4.50am on June 19, 2012. He had apparently committed suicide using his bedsheets. All effort by the duty officers and a team of EFCC medical personnel led by Dr. Gideon Osi of the Commission’s Medical Unit to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation proved futile. He was subsequently certified dead at about 5.45 am.

Though all clues point to suicide, the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Station, Maitama for investigation.

The deceased was arrested by Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service following a complaint by one Ahamefula Chibuzor Ewuzie that he fraudulently obtained the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited, and transferred to the Commission on 30th May, 2012 for further investigation.

The Commission had filed a five count charge against him in court and got a Wednesday, June 20, 2012 as hearing date. He was served the court papers to prepare his defence yesterday.

His arrest was officially communicated to the Italian Embassy on 31st May, 2012. The same day, the suspect was granted provisional bail, but he could not get a surety to take him on bail.

While in detention, Mr. Zanin was visited on May 30, 2012, by Mr. Nicola Bazzani, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy; and everyday by his lawyer, Mr.Ugochukwu Onyejiuto. “It is important to say that I took this matter pro bono, with the hope that he will pay my fees when he is free. I was spending my money feeding him… to my amazement; he refused to let his family know what was going on. He has a 30 year-old son who is a lawyer in Italy but he was always telling them all was well”, Onyejiuto said.

Zanin took his own life a day to his scheduled arraignment. He was supposed to be arraigned before the Federal High Court (5) in Abuja on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

Dr. Mma Wokocha, the complainant expressed shock at the news of the death of the suspect, wondering how she would recover the huge sum of money obtained from her by the deceased. However, she absolved the Commission of any blame in the death of the suspect. "Nobody should blame the EFCC. The Commission has done what it has to do, you cannot blame the EFCC...there was total human care for this guy," she said.

Facts of the Case

The deceased, a confirmed fraudster, allegedly obtained the money from Wokocha under the guise of selling used Dredger Italgraghe SGT 200 to them, to execute some dredging contract in the Niger Delta. The suspect sent them a Bill of Laden but their long wait for the ship, MSC Trinidad to berth was futile. Unknown to the complainant the Bill of Laden was forged as the ship indicated had ceased to exist long before they ever met the deceased three years ago.

The remains of the suspect have been deposited at the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

1: Incompatible goals for the future

They say that opposites attract, but when you want children and your other half panics at the mere mention of parenthood, or your partner wants to immigrate to another country and you want to stay put, this kind of opposition can cause a problem. Whilst it’s possible to work through such mis-matched goals and reach a fair agreement that both parties are happy with, sometimes it’s hard to do that without thwarting your – or your partner’s – dreams. 2: Sneaking around

The key to a great relationship is honesty and trust, so if your partner is sneaking around then it defeats the object of being in an intimate relationship and you need to tackle the problem head on. Go about it carefully though; following him/her into town to ‘catch them in the act’ only to find that they were purchasing your surprise birthday present could lead to all sorts of complications, and you don’t want to risk being the embarrassed guilty party. 3: No special gestures

4: You can’t seem to leave the past in the past

Relationships where the past can’t seem to be left where it belongs are often a recipe for disaster. If you’re having an argument, respond appropriately to what is happening here and now, not what happened six weeks ago. Granted – past issues can cause an underlying problem in the relationship if they are never spoken about, but once a problem has been addressed it’s time to move on from it. It’s a common deal-breaker in relationships to keep bringing up past issues during an argument to use as ammunition against your other half. If you can’t learn to forgive and forget – or your partner can’t learn to forgive and forget a mistake that you have made – then it might be time to cut all ties and start afresh.

5: You’re constantly bickering

Arguing is a natural way to get things off your chest and emphasise what’s upsetting or annoying you to improve your relationship in the long-run, but when things have soured to the point that you spend more of your time arguing than not, it’s often time to raise the red flag. Healthy relationships are about having good conversations and being happy when you’re around your other half, not constantly being surrounded by negativity and feeling angry or upset. Don’t be tempted to stick together when all you do is fight; as easy as this is to do, you will end up feeling even more miserable in the long run.

Two students of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, were yesterday reportedly beheaded in a clash between ex-militants and suspected cult members.

Several students werebeaten by the gunmen who invaded their hostels.

Students’ vehicles parked in the hostels were destroyed. A source said the incident caused panic as many ran out of their hostels naked.

The gunmen were said to have invaded the campus at about 4am and started searching the hostels, looking for their victims.

They were said to have blocked the entrance into the campus and macheted those who tried to escape.

Another source said it was a clash of some ex-militants, who were recently admitted into the institution, and a cult group.

Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Kingsley Kuku, at the Founder’s Day lecture, said 208 ex-militants were undergoing rehabilitation  at the institution.

A parent said his son called him yesterday morning informing him of the attack.

“My son called me in the morning to tell me that there was a clash in the institution between ex-militants and cult members at about 5am. He also said the two groups engaged in sporadic shooting.”

A student, who gave his name as Sam, said many vehicles were destroyed. He said: “I had to run into the bush with my friends. Two students were beheaded.”

Another student said many students were attacked and some were likely kidnapped. A message he sent reads: “They’ve also blocked the main gate of the school so no one can come in or go out!

“It started around 2am with gun shots. The attackers then marched from room to room, looking for 300 level Law students before they destroyed cars parked in front of the hostels from Z block to M block, old boys hostel. They entered and destroyed some rooms and beat some of the occupants. My friends and I had to take the bush path out of school since we were not sure what was going on, only to meet blocked roads and gates. The destruction, killings and looting continued as no school official intervened. They entered the female hostels. Now we hope for the best as we expect the worst.”

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, could not be reached for comments.
Commissioner of Police Olayinka Balogun said the situation is under control.
Balogun said one student was injured and several vehicles damaged.

He said five persons had been arrested.

Word of Militants attacking Igbinedion University came through earlier this morning.



They were allegedly destroying cars, shooting, macheting students and have injured quite a number of people.



The main gate of the school has been blocked - a lot of chaos going on in the school right now and the students are in need of security.

It’s quite unfortunate what Hon. Farouk Lawan is going though at the moment. The suspended lawmaker is fast becoming a shadow of his former self and he's almost left with no iota of credibility, particularly after the video which captured him collecting bribe from Mr. Femi Otedola was shown to him.



Credible sources said that Farouk was caught on camera stuffing dollars into every available pocket on his body. When his pocket got filled he, very shamelessly, removed his cap, put the remaining dollars inside and wear the cap on his head.

Security experts believed he did such in order not be been seen by anyone leaving Mr. Otedola’s house with bag(s), since he didn't go their with bag in the first place.

He was said to have earlier insisted that he collected the said bribe with the intent of using same as evidence against Mr. Otedola but, we learnt that he became sober as soon as the video was played before him and those investigating him.

However, the matter became more controversial when Farouk failed to provided the same money he had collected. Asked by investigators to surrender the marked dollars, Farouk could only provide a few leftovers, claiming the rest had been stolen. A security source told us that the Police hierarchy is highly disappointed in Farouk.

Also, Mr. Frank Mba, Force spokesman, confirmed that the embattled lawmaker is still in their custody because “investigations were still ongoing”.

Heavy artillery fire and sporadic gunshots around Naibawa and Darmunawa areas of Kano over the last couple of hours have forced residents to remain indoors. Witnesses say the first shot was heard around 3.25am Friday(15/06/2012), and had since then gained intensity in the affected areas. It was learnt  that  parents  who were initially unaware of the situation in the area have besieged several schools to pick up their children.



The Kona Masalchi area where two students of the Federal Government College, Kano were killed on Monday have been cordoned off, while motorists on the Kano-Zaria federal highway are been diverted. Banks, public and private businesses are hurriedly closing shops as Military apache helicopter were seen hovering the skyline of the embattled ancient city.

A middle age man, Kola Ajibola, is in the police custody for allegedly killing his pregnant wife. The incident occurred at Badagry area of Lagos, last Wednesday, during a scuffle between Kola and his wife, Funmilayo, who was said to be five months pregnant at the time.



Family members of the deceased accused Kola of the crime, alleging that he beat up and shoved his pregnant wife. And the deceased allegedly fell on a hard object in their apartment and sustained a major injury, which made her bleed from the nose.

Seeing the harm he committed, Kola was said to have taken his wife to the clinic but Funmilayo, a mother of one, died shortly after, and the case was subsequently reported to the Badagry police station.
 
Funmilayo's elder sister, who identified herself as Monisola, also accused Kola of molesting his late wife in the past.

“They have quarreled in the past and Kola has maltreated his wife. Just recently, my late sister reported his behaviour to one of our uncles and Kola was called and warned not to touch her again," she said.
"It is sad that he did not heed the warning as he went on to beat her despite the fact that she was five months pregnant for him; she has a seven-year-old son and he is staying with the family since her untimely death."
Monisola however feared that the case might not be properly investigated by the police, alleging that officers attached to the Badagry police station have been frustrating the family’s efforts to get justice.

She alleged that Deputy Crime Officer (DCO) at the station had told her to approach the Homicide department at Panti Yaba, if she wanted the case transferred there.

"Is it my job to ask for police signal before the case can be transferred for thorough investigation?" She asked.
"We suspect a foul play by the police that they want to release the suspect without conducting investigation."
Reacting to the allegation, the spokesperson for the state police Command, Ngozi Braide, said proper investigation will be conducted into the case.

"A signal has already been sent to the police headquarters over the incident, so there is no prank to release the suspect,” she said.
“The suspect is in the custody of the police and the police officers at Badagry have taken the corpse for a post mortem to be conducted."

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday handed out letters of credence to the newly appointed 93 ambassadors, charging them to protect Nigeria’s interest.



86 of the ambassadors were posted out of Nigeria while the remaining seven who fell under the category of In-Situ will stay back in the country.

Prominent among the ambassadors were, a former Minister and Peoples Democratic Party stalwart, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, former Deputy Governors, Taofeek Arapaja of Oyo and Cornelius Oluwateru of Ondo.

Also on the list is a veteran journalist and former General Manager of the Nigerian Television Authority, Ibadan, Chief Akinyemi Farounbi.

The list of the female envoys include former Minister of Aviation, Fidelia Njeze, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Mrs. Hadiza Mustapha, Mrs. Victoria Onipede, Mrs. Katherine Okon and

In his address President Jonathan expressed his delight at the elaborate induction programme given the embassadors and their spouses which has prepared them for the role ahead. He said they were eminently qualified to represent the country having had interactions with most of them at different fora in the past.

 Jonathan said,  "you are posted to your designation to represent the president and not your state or your ethnicity, and project Nigeria as a united and indivisible nation. You must encourage Nigerians abroad to have a solid union."

The secret "negotiations" have started and the leadership of the House of Representatives, sources gathered from an insider, is pained at the turn of even in the bribery scandal hanging on the neck of one of its brightest, Hon. Farouk Lawwan.



Multiple sources have confirmed that the speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal has been in communication with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and seriously begging for a soft landing for Hon. Lawan for the sake of the House's credibility.

Tambuwal is said to be reaching out to the Senate President, David Mark, being a right hand man of Obasanjo, to help "talk to the former president."

When asked what stake the former president has in the matter, one of the source said he's the best man to influence President Goodluck Jonathan to call his people (Nigeria Police) to order and allow the "matter to be settled amicably".

However, while Tambuwal and his men are busy working behind the scene to "save the House such huge embarrassment", the Nigeria Police have threatened to declare Hon. Lawan WANTED if he fails to honour their invitation by Thursday.

"We have reached out to the leadership of the House of Representatives to prevail on Lawan to respect the Police. We will give him up till Thursday to come for interaction with the STF or we will apply the law. Do not forget that we can either declare him wanted or secure a bench warrant from a court for his arrest," a police source said.

Also, it was leant that Femi Otedola is insisting that Hon. Lawan should be ordered to bring the exact dollars he collected from him because the SSS marked the money.
